HCG calculator FAQ
Answers about HCG, preparation details, syringe units, and vial storage.
What is HCG and why is it used alongside TRT?
HCG stands for human chorionic gonadotropin. It acts similarly to luteinizing hormone (LH), stimulating the testes to produce testosterone. Some clinicians prescribe it alongside TRT when maintaining testicular function is a concern. A small study of concurrent HCG and TRT reported maintained semen parameters, but this does not guarantee fertility. If you are planning a pregnancy, discuss treatment with a specialist; AUA/ASRM guidance advises against exogenous testosterone for men interested in current or future fertility.
What information do I need after reconstituting HCG?
You need the total HCG amount in the vial in IU, the final solution volume in mL, and your prescribed dose per injection in IU. Use the preparation instructions for your specific product and confirm the final volume with your pharmacist if you are unsure. The volume in the supplied diluent container is not necessarily the amount used to prepare the vial. The calculator derives concentration from the values you enter; it does not choose a diluent or mixing volume.
Are HCG IU the same as U-100 syringe units?
No. HCG IU describe the amount of HCG activity. U-100 syringe units describe volume: 100 units equals 1 mL. For example, at 2,500 IU/mL, a prescribed 250 IU dose is 0.1 mL, or 10 units on a U-100 syringe. A different concentration changes the syringe reading for the same HCG dose. Confirm the syringe scale and injection equipment with your pharmacist.
How long can I use a reconstituted HCG vial?
The usable period depends on the product, preparation, and storage instructions. For example, U.S. labeling specifies refrigerated storage at 2–8°C and use within 30 days for NOVAREL prepared as directed, compared with 60 days for PREGNYL prepared as directed. Follow the instructions and discard date supplied for your own vial, including any pharmacy-specific directions. The calculator’s dose count estimates quantity only; it does not extend the usable period.
How do I calculate my prescribed HCG injection volume?
Divide the total vial IU by the final solution volume in mL to get concentration in IU/mL. Then divide your prescribed IU per injection by that concentration. For example, 5,000 IU in 2 mL gives 2,500 IU/mL; a prescribed 250 IU dose is 250 ÷ 2,500 = 0.1 mL. Multiply mL by 100 for U-100 syringe units. Results show up to four decimal places; confirm practical measurement and rounding with your prescriber or pharmacist. The calculator does not recommend a dose or frequency.
